How these seasons were worked out

Nothing in the timing system says which nights belong to which league — a heat carries a race type and a date and nothing else. So the seasons here are read off the calendar: every recorded league night sorted, and a new season started wherever the gap between two nights opens past 18 days. The winter leagues run weekly with three or four quiet weeks between them, which is a gap this can't miss; a long unbroken run of weekly nights is taken as summer drop-in rather than a league, and isn't given a drop.

What the dates can't see is a league that runs straight into the drop-in with a single week between them — the spring league did exactly that, so the two read as one long block until someone says where one ends. "Start a season here" below is that mark: set it on the first night of the new run and every night after follows it, so a break costs one click and not seventeen.

Move a night

A night put somewhere by hand stays there whatever the dates say. "Work it out" hands it back to the gap rule. "Start a season here" opens a new season at that night and every night after it joins that season too, until the next long gap or the next break — which is how you split one long block in two.
